Key information.
Why did you decide to study psychiatry (as a medical doctor) and pursue a PhD in brain function?
The mind, the brain, and our ability to change the world make up the most fascinating subject of study. It is likely the most complex system in the Solar System—responsible for everything we love, beauty, passion, and truth.
Do you accept insurance?
Many PPO plans cover up to 50-60% of out-of-network physicians. However, you will need to check with your provider to determine eligibility, as we are not listed as an in-network provider on any insurance panels.
The benefit of this approach is that it may offer greater privacy, more flexibility in the duration, frequency, and intensity of treatment, and, in many cases, shorter wait times. We are happy to provide an itemized bill that you can submit for reimbursement.
What other initiatives are you working on?
We have advanced the state of knowledge in AI and machine learning applications in psychiatry and are currently developing tools to make evidence-based psychotherapeutic techniques more engaging, precise, and accessible.
What are the biggest opportunities in mental health for a patient or for someone who simply wants to feel better?
After finding a great clinician—someone who listens intently, is kind yet firm when needed, and brings creativity and resourcefulness to your development—one of the biggest opportunities is to train your mind as you would train your body, using science-backed techniques.
What is the evidence supporting the non-medication methodologies you believe are helpful for patients?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - listing of 2,000+ supportive RCTs.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - 1,000+ RCTs supporting it, see select studies.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) - several key Randomized Controlled Studies.
Psychodynamic - summary of some of the literature (RCTs).
Do you see patients in person?
Most patients prefer secure Telehealth appointments for convenience. The ability to join from home often reduces stress, leading to deeper, more effective psychotherapeutic conversations.
However, we also offer in-person appointments in West LA, CA (Santa Monica and Beverly Hills), and Miami, FL (Coral Gables) when clinically appropriate.
What types of medications are helpful for patients?
Each patient requires a personalized treatment plan based on:
An in-depth initial assessment, including medical history, psychiatric background, characterological (personality) structure, personal concerns, and strengths.
Identification of medical conditions that affect brain function (e.g., traumatic brain injury, metabolic disorders).
Objective data sets such as labs and imaging.
Because of our flexible, patient-centered approach, we have the ability to have impact quickly and prioritize safer treatment options due to deep customization —often avoiding expedient standard but suboptimal choices that may come with unnecessary side effects.
